Mind School
The school of Mind-Benders gathers the disciplines that sharpen thought and harness play as the engine of collective intelligence. Here belong the great strategy games and combinatorial wonders — practices that train the eye for hidden structure and the patience to follow a single thread of consequence to its end. The school inherits from Plato’s educational programme in the Republic, from the medieval quadrivium, and from Leibniz’s own dream of a characteristica universalis in which problems of every kind might be reduced to calculation. A Mind-Bender does not merely think well; she discovers that thought, like any other practice, can be cultivated by play.
